Reason for Pooping

Rafa, sitting on the throne while doing number 2:

Rafa:  "Why do we poo-poo, Mum?"
Mum:  {thinking of how to explain the waste elimination process} "So that the waste or the dirty stuff in our tummy will..."
Rafa:  {answering his own question} "So that we can get the spaceship book!"

Nice one, son!

*He gets books as prizes for pooping in the potty.  The first time, he got an airplane book.  Then he asked for a spaceship book but we keep forgetting about it because we were always busy thinking what his poop looked like.  Sometimes it's a Parasaurolophus, sometimes it's a Diplodocus, a Velociraptor, and so on.

Mum Is A Lucky Girl

So we were walking home today-- the three of us, after our session at the library.  Then this sweet boy suddenly turned to me and said,

Rafa:  "You're a lucky girl, Mum!"
Mum: "Really? Why am I a lucky girl?"
Rafa:  "Because I love you!"

Oh sweet.  And the way he said it that time was really touching. Here's the reproduction of the video.  I just asked Rafa to repeat what he said a while ago so I can record it.

October 4, 2011

October 4, 2011.  This is the day our little boy officially became a Big Boy.  As some of you may have known, he's been wee-wee trained since last year.  He doesn't wear a nappy to school, when we go out and during his afternoon naps.  He can not wear a nappy at night when he sleeps but we still make him wear one "just in case."

But pupu training's another thing.  He knows when he needs to go but will always insist on putting the nappy and doing number 2 in them. Then last night, October 4, 2011, he pooped in the potty!  It was a bitter-sweet moment, with him crying and holding his poop until he can no longer hold it and just let go.  . I wiped his pwet-pwet (butt) with tissue and touched his pwet-pwet to show him how fantastic it is not to feel the poop on your butt.  When he stood up, he felt so proud to see this giant poop on the bowl!  He said "I did it Mum and my pupu looks like it has a crest on the head!"  -- "crest on the head" (after the Parasaurolophus, hmmm, little boy's dinosaur phase).

And oh, before he "let go," he kept asking for a nappy and I told him that daddy went down to get his nappy because we ran out of nappies. After his "success," he said "my baby sister will just use the nappy that Daddy bought."

Sorry for this cheesy post, my heart is just bursting with joy with this milestone.  This milestone came a little late but it was sweet nonetheless.

Playing at the Indoor Playground

Here are some forgotten videos from long ago (July 2011).  It's just three months ago but we've been seeing a lot of positive changes in the little boy that three months feel like a decade ago.  They grow up so fast!

Biking Boy

The first time  I brought the bike to school, he got really excited.  He was so proud to show his classmate how to use the bike bell.  I think he got challenged when his classmate borrowed the bike.

This is the second time he rode his "big boy bike."  I dragged the bike to school again and he had so much fun.

New Skill

Rafa has a new skill:  he can "utot" (fart) at will.  He looks really funny trying to get the "utot" out.

Hotel Sleepovers

Rafa likes staying at hotels.  Whenever we have a sleepover, he would beg us not to leave.

Itsie-Bitsie Spidering

Rafa lying on top of Mum,
Mum was tickling Rafa.

Rafa: Don't tickle me Mum! (laughing)
Mum : I'm not tickling you! (denying)
Rafa: You're not ticke-wing me,
you're just itsie-bitsie spidering me!

Lucky For You-- You Know Rafael!

When we told him that we'll watch Rio on TV, he immediately picked out who he'll be.  He picked the black/white toucan named Rafael without knowing that the toucan's name is Rafael.  He thought we were pulling his leg when we told him that the name of the bird is Rafael.  He would say "No, I'm not Rafael.  What's my name?" So we christened the toucan "Murano".  But we tried to "show" him that the toucan's name is Rafael.  We played and replayed the part where the toucan said "Lucky for you, you know Rafael!" But instead of believing us, hearing his "real"  name (real life name) mentioned by "him" (the toucan Rafael) was too amusing for him. He'd laugh out loud and this line had become his favorite Rio line.

So whenever we ask him, "what did Murano say?"
He will say "Lucky for you, you know Rafael!"

Sometimes, he'd say "Murano said 'lucky for you, you know Rafael' and I laugh-ted! Hahahaha."

To see the clip from Rio, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK6SkBbFepA.  Rafa's favorite line appears within 0:09 seconds into the clip.

Indeed, we are lucky because we know you, Rafael!

He Only Speaks The Truth

Mum : Who's Pogi?
Rafa  : I am
Mum : Who's beautiful?
Rafa  : Mummy
Mum : Who's cute
Rafa  : I'm chute also

Close The Mouth Too!

Tonight, we're in bed early. Rafa finished his dinner so he had iced lolly as prize. Naddy threw in another prize for drinking his milk really fast. We're in a happy mood. So naturally, the Silvannas Prince kept talking while lying in his bed.

Mum : "Time to sleep. Close your eyes now "
Rafa: "How about the mouth?"
Mum : "Yes, eyes and mouth."

How could I have forgotten the mouth?

Singular-Plural

"When there's only one animal, you say ANIMAL.  When there's many animals, you say ANIMALS"

Most of the time he knows how to use singular-plural words correctly and past-present-future tenses correctly. But sometimes, he also gets things mixed up.  For example:

"If there's one people, you say PEOPLE.  If there's many people, you say PEOPLES."
"He was funny and I laugh-ted!"

We correct him and then he will say the same thing again and will laugh.  And we all laugh-ted!

Pizza Express Sleepover

He was enjoying the food and the ambience, he was even the one who insisted on eating at this pizza place.  But he was just too sleepy and did not even finish the meal.  We weren't able to video the one where he's really sleeping with head falling down.  Hahaha!

They Throwed The Anchor

My boy was drinking water from my Anchor Hocking glass when he saw the very tiny and discreet Anchor logo etched at the bottom of the glass:

Rafa: What do you call that, Mum?
Mum: Which one?
Rafa: That one. Remember when we rode the Chemas boat, they throwed it to the water so the boat won't move and we can go down?
Mum: Oh yeah, I remember. It's called an anchor!

Kids see everything. And it's always fascinating to look through their eyes. It's nice that Rafa remembers things even if it had been months since it happened.

Adios Means Good-bye

Last night, while watching Handy Manny in Disney Junior, I told Rafa that "Adios" means "Good-bye."  I asked him again and to make sure he got it.  Today, I told him, "adios Rafa."  He came to me and said "adios means good-bye."

Good memory, my boy!

Rafa SSS

That's Rafa Swimming, Singing and Spinning! Before this day, he would never wear any floaters.  He likes the pool, yes.  But would always cling to one of us.  Now, he's wearing floaters and swimming on his own.  He can spin all by himself again and again.  Once, he even did the dolphin kick.  It may not be much compared to other kids, but it's more than enough to make us really proud!  And we get to swim and enjoy too!

We're so proud of you, Nanawu!

Mahal Kita, Dad

Since we've been here in Davao for quite some time, and Rafa's been like a sponge absorbing and mimicking everything he hears, my sister tried to teach him how to say "I love you" in Filipino.  Here he is saying "mahal kita" as "ma-how kita".

Where He Wants to Live

Come back here, Dad! ASAP!

Rafa is loving all the space and attention he's getting here in Davao.

What He Wants To Be When He Grows Up

He used to say, "Captain" or "Pilot" whenever we ask him what he wants to be when he grows up.  Sometimes, he says he wants to be Buzz Lightyear.  But maybe, he has realized that being a pilot or a captain entails a lot of responsibilities.  So now, when we ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, the reply would be:

"A Passenger, (when I) grow up!"

I Love You Dad!

This one's for you Naddy.

When I'm Feeling Sad

Rafa sitting on a pillow, pretending it's a boat.

Then Mum announced that it's sleeping time and he has to get off the boat.

"I'm sad, Mum."

Rafa said in between sobs.

"Hug me,Mum."

He solved the problem for Mum.

He recognized the emotions he's feeling and knew what had to be done to fulfil it.

We Only Peel Oranges

Mum: Let's put lotion on your face now.
Rafa hides under the comforter.
Mum: Let's put lotion now.  Do you want your face to get dry?
Finally, Mum gets to put lotion.  While applying lotion,
Mum: We put lotion so your face will not get dry, so your skin will not peel.  Do you want your face to peel?
Rafa: No, only orange.
